VARIOUS EVENTS ARE PLANNED FOR

HOMELESSNESS AND POVERTY WEEK


Every year churches across the UK mark the last week of January as Poverty and Homelessness action week.  The national event is

    • Organised by: Church Action on Poverty HousingJustice

and there are some excellent prayer, worship and study resources available for your church on the website at  http://www.actionweek.org.uk/

 

 

In Preston this year Central Methodist Church is taking the lead and is being supported in this by PCAN (Preston Christian Action Network), Methodist Action, and the Preston Homeless Forum.

 

The main events planned at Central Methodist Church are.

 

Sunday January 29th 4pm  Special Service for Homelessness Sunday. ; “    Breaking Barriers”   All Welcome:

 

Tuesday January 31st 10am 2pm – Market Place… Groups working with homeless People in Preston will be present with displays and information stands about their work.  All organisations who are members of the Homeles Forum are invited to be present and bring a display of their work. Thursday February 2nd    Day of Prayer for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. The church will be open from 10am – 4.30pm with resources available to help people to pray. All people of faith, other churches and faith communities are encouraged to mark the day in their own prayers.. and to follow the online prayer calendar throughout the week http://www.actionweek.org.uk/html/calendar/calendar.html

THE BIG PRESTON SLEEP OUT

 

     Friday 3rd February 2012 – Saturday 4th February 2012

 

To held at Central Methodist Church, Lune Street, Preston

 

As part of the City’s events to promote Homelessness and Poverty Week 2012, a sleep–out event has been organized so as to:

 

  1. To raise money for local projects providing shelter and support to homeless people.
  2. To increase public awareness of the difficulties and barriers facing homeless people in Preston.

 

As the space at Lune Street is limited, the numbers of ‘sleepers’ has been restricted to a maximum of 12 and enough volunteers have already registered.. Most of the places are already taken but there is an opportunity to sponsor the sleepers or make donations directly;  Please contact Geoff Tyson at g.tyson4@btinternet.com for additional information and sponsorship form.
